Discover all the important sights that the South Coast has to offer while staying at tranquil accommodation in the picturesque Icelandic countryside.
Did you ever wonder about visiting the magnificent South Coast of Iceland? Look no further, this tour was made for you.
We begin our journey with the pick-up in the capital, Reykjavik. Afterward, we will take you to the spectacular Seltún geothermal area, where we can see many fumaroles and mud pots, not to mention the neighboring Kleifarvatn lake.
During the summer months, we will also take you to the Krýsuvíkurberg Cliff, which is known for its rich birdlife and the fantastic view over the Atlantic Ocean.
Our second geothermal area is called Gunnuhver, which has connections to Icelandic folklore, stories of the past about ghosts and curses.
Before the highlight of the day, we are crossing the continents at the bridge between the continents, where you can easily walk from the European to the North-American continent in just a few steps.
After all the exciting stops, it is time for relaxation. We cannot think of a better place for this activity, than the world-famous Blue Lagoon. Its mineral-rich, milky blue waters will definitely revitalize your body before we reach our overnight stay in the south, the lovely Hotel Hverna.
After breakfast, we will continue our journey on the beloved Golden Circle.
Our first stop, the Þingvellir National Park is one of the most important locations in Icelandic history, the first parliament was founded here in 930 AD, making it one of the oldest in Europe. Furthermore, since the national park is located between two tectonic plates, you will be able to walk between the European and the North-American continents.
Of course, we have to pay a visit to the mother of all geysers as well, Geysir, the most famous one in the whole world! Even though she is no longer active these days, her little brother Strokkur is always putting on a show every 5-8 minutes, so you will be able to see, how these unique geothermal fountains work.
We will experience the true power of Mother Nature as well at Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall. More than 130 000 liters of water per second are running down the cliffs, making it one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe.
Our final stop is the Kerid volcanic crater, located in the Grímsnes area. We will walk around the well-preserved caldera and enjoy the view of the vivid aquamarine blue lake at the bottom before heading back to our accommodation, Hotel Kverna.
On the third day, we will be heading to one of the most beautiful areas in Iceland, the breathtaking Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The floating icebergs are the product of the nearby Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier slow melting process. Many famous Hollywood movies were filmed here, our guide will tell you more about them. You will also participate in a boat ride, you will have the chance to have a first-hand experience of the glacier lagoon itself.
Right next to the glacier lagoon, we will explore the otherworldy Diamond Beach as well, where the smaller pieces of ice are returning from the ocean forming a spectacular sight. Before we return to Hotel Hverna, we will stop at the center of the region, Vík í Mýrdal, and the extraordinary Reynisfjara black sand beach, which functions as the home of countless puffins during the summer months.
The last day is all about astonishing waterfalls. As we are heading back to Reykjavik, we are stopping at Skógafoss, a sight you might remember from the popular "Game of Thrones" television show. According to the local legend, treasures are being hidden here, if you pay attention to our guide, you might be able to find them. Our next stop, Seljalandsfoss is truly special as well. It is located right under the notorious Eyjafjallajökull volcano and if the weather conditions allow it, we will take you behind the waterfall's curtain as well. Last but not least, we are exploring the nearby, somewhat hidden Gljúfrabúi waterfall. After these four days filled with beauty and thrill, we will drive you back to the capital of Reykjavik.
