A once in a lifetime experience. Witness an active volcano and understand why Iceland is called "The land of Fire and Ice"!
Did you ever wonder, how it would be to experience an active volcano with your own eyes, feeling the heat from the pouring hot lava?
Well, now it is the perfect time for you, Iceland's latest attraction has it all, and lucky for you it is located only a short drive away from Reykjavik.
The Fagradalsfjall volcano is located in the Geldingardalur valley on the Reykjanes peninsula. Like all volcanos, it is a rather whimsical creature and was laying dormant for a few hundred years, until it decided to erupt in March 2021 after more than 40 000 tremors were felt in the area.
Let us guide you there in order to show you this spectacular natural phenomenon.
Once we reach the parking area, which is about a 40-minute drive from Reykjavik, we can already see the remnants of the last eruptions that occurred more than 900 years ago. A shorter hike awaits us through the trail, the volcano is approximately 3 kilometers away and this moderate walk should not take us longer than 1-1,5 hours one way.
After a slightly steeper hill, we finally reach the plateau, the otherworldly sight becomes apparent. You will be able to enjoy your time here, taking photos and making some videos, however, we would like to ask you to follow the guide's safety instructions the whole time. Our colleague will also take some photos and we will give you access to them after the tour, free of charge.
