About

Small-Group Glacier Hike & Ice-Climb on Sólheimajökull

Join us for a half-day glacier hike and intro ice-climb on Sólheimajökull, one of Iceland’s most accessible outlet glaciers. We run with a maximum of six guests, so every outing feels private.

What to Expect

  • Hike a Moving River of Ice – hear how glaciers form, flow and retreat in real time.
  • Choose your Challenge Level – mellow stroll, steep ridges or a short abseil into moulins; we decide together. The small groups allow for us to decide on the fly how we want to have our experience.
  • Intro to Ice Climbing – swing tools, kick crampons and top-rope on blue ice.
  • All Technical Gear Included – crampons, helmet, harness, ice tools, rope; you just bring layers and sturdy boots.
  • Certified safety – we send only certified guides with wilderness first responder license.

It does not matter if you are a beginner that has never stepped on ice or an experienced mountaineer. Thanks to the semi-private nature of the trips and the guide's skill, we adapt the experience so you can have a great time out!

Location:

  • Meeting on location: Solheimajökull glacier parking.
  • Pick up: Available at various points in Reykjavík and along the way. Can be selected during check out.

If you would like to add 2/3 hours to your experience by going rock climbing when we are done in the glacier, we offer a tour that includes both the glacier hike with intro ice climbing and rock climbing. You can learn more about it here .

Safety comes first, so if the weather isn't good, we may change the date of the tour. If we cannot provide a date on the following day, we will offer a 100% refund.

By choosing us for your trip you are choosing a socially committed and environmentally friendly company.
