Reykjanes “Smoking Peninsula” is a small headland on the southwestern tip of the Reykjanes peninsula. The area is connected to volcanic activity because the Mid-Atlantic rift runs right through it – explaining the many hot springs in the area.
Highlights of the tour:
Seltún – an important high-temperature geothermal area. A boardwalk leads through the area.
Krýsavíkurberg Cliff – Known for their rich birdlife (home to 60.000 individual birds in the height of summer) and fantastic view over the Atlantic ocean.
Gunnuhver – Impressive and colorful geothermal field of various mud pools and fumaroles.
Bridge between the continents – the bridge connecting the European and North American content geologically speaking.
