South Coast's greatest hits

  • Get close and personal with Seljalandsfoss waterfall, an iconic spot on the south coast, and walk behind the water for a unique 360-degree view
  • Explore Skógafoss waterfall, famed (among other things!) for its starring role in Game of Thrones
  • Discover Gljúfrabúi waterfall, a hidden gem nestled among the cliffs, waiting to be explored
  • Walk along the world-famous Reynisfjara black sand beach
  • Take in the view of Sólheimajökull glacier, a glacier tongue sticking out of Mýrdalsjökull glacier
  • Spend the day soaking breathtaking scenery featuring some of Iceland’s most famous active volcanoes

Skógafoss Waterfall

In the heart of Iceland's dramatic landscapes, our journey begins at the awe-inspiring Skógafoss Waterfall, a cinematic masterpiece featured in Game of Thrones. Plummeting 60 meters (196 feet), its majestic cascade leaves visitors utterly spellbound. As you stand in its mist, our guide unravels tales of the hidden treasure chest behind the falls, sparking the thrill of discovery.

Reynisfjara black sand beach and surroundings

Venturing forth, our next destination is the world-renowned Reynisfjara black sand beach, once lauded among the planet's top 10 beauty spots. Stepping onto the beach reveals a mesmerizing tableau of basalt columns, the iconic Reynisdrangar rock formations, and the rhythmic dance of the Atlantic waves. Amidst this enchanting backdrop, our guide weaves captivating narratives of the rich sagas and stories connected to this ethereal place.

Navigating to the southernmost point, a quaint fishing village captures the essence of the region. A visit to the local church affords panoramic coastal views, offering a moment of serenity in this picturesque setting.

The journey continues to the Dyrhólaey arch, where panoramic vistas unfold in every direction. To the south, the vast Atlantic Ocean stretches to the horizon, while glaciers and mountains dominate the north. To the east, striking black lava columns create an otherworldly scene, and to the west lies the surreal Black Sand Beach.

Sólheimajökull outlet glacier

Beyond waterfalls, Iceland's glaciers take center stage, covering 11% of the country. Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier from the fourth largest glacier in Iceland, Mýrdalsjökull, unveils a frozen spectacle against the rugged terrain.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

As we wind our way back toward Reykjavik, our final stop is the iconic Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Nestled beneath the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, whose eruption in 2010 captured global attention, this waterfall invites an immersive experience. Weather permitting, you will stroll behind the curtain of cascading water before discovering its hidden counterpart, Gljúfrabúi, concealed within the mountainside — a fitting conclusion to your unforgettable day.

To make the best out of your day, pick an extra activity at checkout:

  • Snowmobiling: South Iceland is undeniably spectacular from "below," but nothing compares to experiencing it from "above." Our snowmobile tour takes you to the summit of Mýrdalsjökull glacier—an icecap concealing Katla, one of Iceland’s largest volcanoes. Immerse yourself in the wilderness and soak in breathtaking views over South Iceland.
  • ATV/Quad Tour: This tour offers a unique opportunity to revel in the magnificent landscape crafted by the dormant volcano Katla, concealed beneath the Mýrdalsjökull icecap. Weather and visibility permitting, you can enjoy a splendid view of the glacier and the coastline stretching to Dyrhólaey.
  • Private Glacier Hike: Donned in glacier equipment, we take our inaugural steps onto the glacier. Explore the diverse shades of glacier ice, strolling beside crevasses and water cauldrons. You will have a chance to try fresh glacier water and we'll make ample stops for photo opportunities.
